Jeremy Irvine and Jonathan Rhys Meyers star in the film, which Roadside Attractions will release on Sept. 25.

Roadside Attractions will release Roland Emmerich’s LGBT rights drama “Stonewall” on Sept. 25, the company announced Tuesday. The film stars Jeremy Irvine, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Caleb Landry Jones, Joey King, Ron Perlman, Matt Craven and newcomer Jonny Beauchamp.

Written by Jon Robin Baitz, the story chronicles the 1969 Stonewall riots that started America’s LGBT rights movement. Irvine plays Danny Winters, a fictional young man who’s forced to leave behind friends and loved ones when he is kicked out of his parent’s home and flees to New York. Alone in Greenwich Village, homeless and destitute, he befriends a group of street kids who soon introduce him to the local watering hole The Stonewall Inn; however, this shady, mafia-run club is far from a safe-haven.
As Danny and his friends experience discrimination, endure atrocities and are repeatedly harassed by the police, we see a rage begin to build. This emotion runs through Danny and the entire community of young gays, lesbians and drag queens who populate the Stonewall Inn and erupts in a storm of anger. With the toss of a single brick, a riot ensues and a crusade for equality is born.

Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey), Tom Wilkinson (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), Andrew Scott (Spectre), Jeremy Irvine (War Horse), Anna Chancellor (What A Girls Wants) and Sheila Hancock (The Boy In The Striped Pajamas) have boarded Simon Aboud’s The Beautiful Fantastic.

This Beautiful Fantastic is a contemporary fairy tale revolving around the unlikely of friendship between a reclusive young woman with dreams of being a children’s book author and a cantankerous widower, set against the backdrop of a beautiful garden in the heart of London. Bella Brown (Findlay) is a beautifully quirky young woman who dreams of writing and illustrating a successful children’s book. Despite her abandonment as a child, her OCD, her awful boss at the library and her paralyzing fear of flora and fauna, Bella is down but not out. When she is forced by her landlord to deal with her neglected garden or face eviction, she meets her nemesis, match and mentor in Alfie Stephenson (Wilkinson), a grumpy, loveless, rich old man who lives next door and happens to be an amazing horticulturalist.

Principal photography starts this week in London.

WAR HORSE’s Jeremy Irvine and CINDERELLA’s Richard Madden have signed on for a reading of Jake Brunger’s new work FOUR PLAY.

Also in the cast are Tom Rhys Harris and Joshua McCord. The play tackles what Brunger sees as “the biggest stumbling block for gays in modern life” — fidelity.

The official description reads: “After seven-and-a-half blissfully happy years, Rafe (Harries) and Pete (Irvine) have hit a rut. Having never slept with another man, their lack of sexual experience is slowly tearing them apart. When they proposition their mutual friend Michael (Madden) — knowing full well that Michael has his own long-term boyfriend Andrew (McCord) — complexities develop that none of the four could have predicted. A new comic play about the problems of monogamy and open relationships in a post gay-marriage era.”

The reading is set for the Old Vic next Friday, June 26, as part of this year’s New Voices Festival.
